LIFE IP CLIMAZ promotes the decarbonisation of the regional fleet
Jan. 21, 2026
On 19 December, the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel, delivered the first five of a total of nine electric pick-up trucks, intended to reinforce the Regional Secretariat’s operational fleet across all islands.
This investment, part of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project and co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, is also one of the measures of the Azores Regional Climate Change Programme (TM3), which aims to promote the decarbonisation of the Region’s vehicle fleet.
The electric vehicles of the FOTON New e-Tuland 2025 PT make and model, with a double cab, five seats, and four doors, are distinguished by their robustness and versatility, allowing park rangers to access hard-to-reach places to protect biodiversity while ensuring comfort and operational functionality.
This pilot project will, for the first time, enable the performance of this type of vehicle to be assessed in a real-world context, namely in demanding environments and conditions, such as the topography of the Region, where the operational services of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action carry out their daily activities.
In addition, this measure also contributes to reducing vehicle operating and maintenance costs. The initiative reinforces the Region’s commitment to climate action and energy transition policies, promoting more sustainable and efficient mobility.
With the financial support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
