New signage alerts visitors to rare species on Pico

Dec. 5, 2025

Informative signage has recently been installed along a walking trail on the island of Pico to alert visitors to the presence of a rare population of Myosotis maritima, discovered by the Pico Island Environment and Climate Action Service.

The initiative, part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, aims to promote active conservation and environmental awareness, contributing to the protection of a rare species that is legally protected under the Habitats Directive.

The new signage aims to inform walkers about the ecological importance of the area and its natural values, encourage responsible behaviour along the route, and reinforce the commitment to preserving local biodiversity.
