LIFE IP CLIMAZ: Volunteering in the Azorean forest and field visit showcase project impact
Nov. 19, 2025
The Regional Directorate for Forest Resources and Land Management, in collaboration with several entities, organised volunteer activities in the municipality of Nordeste on September 27, including a night hike to Pico da Vara, the highest point on the island. Around 25 volunteers took part in this initiative, reinforcing the collective commitment to conserving and sustaining the territory.
These actions highlighted the role of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, which implements measures from the Regional Plan for Climate Change in the Azores (PRAC), making the Region more resilient and sustainable. LIFE IP CLIMAZ is essential for climate change adaptation through the management of forests and natural resources and the promotion of innovative practices.
The initiative is part of the 2024-2028 Action Plan of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST) in the Lands of Priolo, certified by the EUROPARC Federation, which aims to develop sustainable tourism in protected areas.
With the financial support of the European Union's LIFE Program.
