To mark this date, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, through the Graciosa Environment and Climate Action Service and with the support of the Azores Environment Observatory - Angra do Heroísmo Science Centre, is promoting the activity ‘Stars and Sounds of Graciosa - Night Observation’ as part of Science Month.

See the programme:

Reception and introduction

- Brief explanation about the night sky of Graciosa and the importance of light pollution.

Astronomical observation

- Identification of constellations, visible planets and stars.

- Observation of the sky with a telescope.

Active listening to nature

- Silence session to listen to night sounds: seabirds (such as Cory’s Shearwaters), bats, wind, sea.

- Explanation of the sounds identified.

Closing with sharing

- Space for questions, sharing feelings and handing out a small symbolic gift.
