Nocturnal Butterfly Observation Activity on Terceira
Oct. 31, 2025
The LIFE BEETLES project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, in partnership with the Azores Biodiversity Group and the VITA Nativa Association, promoted a nocturnal butterfly observation activity in the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Garden.
This activity aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of insects and arthropods in ecosystems and to showcase the surprising biodiversity that inhabits even the most common spaces in our daily lives.
Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, it was possible to observe three species of moths, a cicada, and a ladybug.
This activity was part of the side events of the Final Conference of the LIFE BEETLES project, taking advantage of the presence of an expert from the Portuguese Moth Station Network.
Participants left with a new perspective on the Azores' natural wealth and the importance of conserving native insects.
