International Day of Climate Action

Climate change is a GLOBAL challenge that requires IMMEDIATE action! As an island region, the Azores are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. But we are not standing still!

We are implementing the following in the Region:

• The Regional Strategy for Climate Change (ERAC): promoting the sustainability and resilience of the Autonomous Region of the Azores in the face of climate change;
• The Regional Programme for Climate Change (PRAC): Implementing the ERAC with concrete measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promote adaptation to climate change;
• The Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality in the Azores (RNCA): achieving carbon neutrality in the Azores by 2050;
• The LIFE IP CLIMAZ project: supporting the implementation of the ERAC and PRAC with an investment of €20 million;
• The IMPLACOST project: Implementing climate change adaptation measures in the coastal areas of the Azores;
• The PLANCLIMAC 2 project: Developing and implementing techniques to minimise the effects of flooding and surface runoff in rural and urban island territories.

With a focus on:

- Mitigation: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions to protect the planet

- Adaptation: Preparing society and ecosystems to deal with the inevitable impacts
