Today is World Ranger Day!

Since 2007, this day has been celebrated on 31 July to honour and recognise the work and mission of these professionals who are dedicated to protecting the environment and conserving biodiversity and natural heritage.
Their duties include monitoring and protecting protected areas, as well as their fauna and flora, collecting and organising information for nature and biodiversity conservation studies, enforcing environmental legislation, and raising public awareness of balanced and responsible management of natural resources.
In the Azores, rangers play a crucial role in defending environmental quality, conserving and enhancing natural heritage, and safeguarding the sustainable development of the region itself.
