Faial Botanic Garden expedition contributes to the conservation of Corvo’s flora

Between 12 and 14 May, the team from the Faial Botanic Garden travelled to the island of Corvo as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, to carry out a series of activities as part of actions C2.1 - Internal Capacity Building and C3.2 - In-situ Conservation of the project.

During the expedition, various conservation and species monitoring activities were carried out.

On the 12th, 25 individuals of Platanthera sp. and a new population of Euphrasia azorica, with 46 individuals, were identified.

On the 13th, a training session was held on the identification of Euphrasia azorica, the population was marked on the ground, and the presence of five individuals of Euphorbia stygiana was confirmed. Additionally, more than 120 individuals of Festuca francoi were planted.

On the 14th, the planting was completed, totalling 532 individuals of Festuca francoi, and new nuclei of various species were identified, including Euphrasia azorica, Veronica dabneyi, Myosotis azorica, Euphorbia stygiana and Vandenboschia speciosa, the latter recorded for the first time in the area.
