LIFE IP CLIMAZ celebrates International Forest Day with students from Domingos Rebelo High School
May 22, 2025
March 21 was International Day of Forests, a date created to encourage countries to protect all types of forests and recognise their importance for local communities and the planet. (https://news.un.org/pt/story/2025/03/1846421)
The Regional Directorate for Forest Resources and Spatial Planning (DRRFOT) takes a conscious and active role in raising awareness among local populations of the benefits of forests, organising a series of talks and activities every year on this date aimed at a diverse target audience.
In this context, on March 20, a lecture entitled ‘The Azorean Forest’ was held at Domingos Rebelo High School, organised by the Ponta Delgada Forestry and Spatial Planning Service/DRRFOT, one of the beneficiaries associated with the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action.
Attended by around 45 students aged between 13 and 20, this lecture covered various topics, including the history, importance and benefits of the forest, the production of endemic species and the multiple initiatives dedicated to the conservation of the Azorean forest, with special emphasis on the involvement of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project.
