Monitoring Campaign
May 6, 2025
On 11 March, as part of the LIFE SNAILS project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, collections of terrestrial snail specimens were carried out in intervened areas of endemic forest on Santa Maria. These collections are part of implementing the monitoring system based on permanent quadrats, aimed at assessing this group's presence, dispersal, and distribution within these habitats. The collection of specimens provides concrete data on the presence or absence of specific species, contributing to a better assessment of the ecological recovery of the intervened areas.
Sampling took place in predefined locations, ensuring the representativeness of the project's target habitats. The results obtained were highly relevant, revealing clear colonisation patterns and offering a detailed insight into the impacts of ecological restoration actions on local biodiversity.
This fieldwork was carried out with the participation of the Park Rangers of the Santa Maria Nature Park, whose contribution was essential for the execution of the work and the collection of field data.
This monitoring approach, designed with a medium- and long-term perspective, strengthens the scientific robustness of the collected data and enhances the understanding of the population dynamics of the target species.
