As part of Action C4.1’ Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial habitats’, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, in collaboration with the Pico Island Environment and Climate Action Service, took advantage of this time of year to continue planting native species in the project’s intervention areas.

At the beginning of March, the project planted following in Caveiro:

_ 440 individuals of Azorean Blueberry (Vaccinium cylindraceum);

_ 20 Short Leafed Juniper (Juniperus brevifolia);

_ 30 individuals of Scotch Heather (Calluna vulgaris);

_ 3 individuals of Azorean Wild Lettuce (Lactuca watsoniana).

The Caveiro intervention area is one of the five intervention areas of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project on the island of Pico. In this area, the project aims to restore existing habitats by excluding cattle from grazing, removing alien and invasive species and planting native species.
