Mitigation of Climate Change in the Azores

Aug. 9, 2021

Climate change is a problem worldwide, and its consequences, as we all know, are increasingly devastating.

In the Azores, through the LIFE IP CLIMAZ, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change intends to develop several actions to fight against this problem, through the monitorization of landslide risks and early warning in priority areas; development of solutions based on nature to ensure greater availability and protection of water; and the increase of the Region's installed capacity for cleaning and unblocking streams in order to avoid flooding. Other priorities are the restoration of peatlands to ensure water retention and the development of a Dynamic Ocean Management Model to increase the Azores’ capacity for the conservation of marine species.
