World Wetlands Day / National Park Rangers Day
Feb. 2, 2025
Today is World Wetlands Day and also National Park Rangers Day.
World Wetlands Day aims to raise awareness of the protection of wetlands and their importance for life on our planet, with the theme for 2025 being ‘Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future’.
National Park Rangers Day seeks to mark and reinforce the contribution of these professionals to nature conservation, as they are essential in raising awareness among the population of the need for balanced and responsible management of natural resources and in gathering information for nature and biodiversity conservation.
To mark these dates, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action is organising various activities for the school community between 31 January and 7 February to educate them about the importance of Wetlands for biodiversity and present the surveillance, inspection and monitoring duties of Park Rangers.
These regional environmental education actions are based on information sessions, interpretive tours, interpretive visits to the environmental centres, bird watching, planting endemic species, removing invasive species, and cleaning up the coastline. They are expected to involve more than 200 participants.
