Controlling and removing IAS
Jan. 16, 2025
Work in the Pico Alto area is actively underway to eradicate invasive alien species, as foreseen in actions C.2 and C.5 of the LIFE SNAILS project. The focus of these activities is eradicating invasive plants such as Pittosporum undulatum and Hedychium gardnerianum, which have had a detrimental effect on the ecological balance of the island's flora and fauna.
The central aim of this activity is to replace these invasive species with endemic plants, thereby promoting the recovery and enhancement of the natural habitat. This restoration will directly benefit the project's target species. It will create more favourable conditions for their survival and contribute to local biodiversity conservation.
