Reference collection

The LIFE SNAILS project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, in collaboration with scientific advisor Professor Dr Frias Martins, is developing a crucial action for conserving the target species: creating a reference collection of snails.

This collection aims to document and preserve specimens of the Region's native and endemic species, serving as an essential tool for identifying and monitoring populations over time. In addition, sharing this collection will significantly impact environmental education, allowing schools, researchers, and the general public to access this knowledge and promote awareness and community involvement in biodiversity protection.

This initiative will also allow for a better understanding of the morphological diversity of snails, contributing to the definition of effective strategies for managing and protecting natural habitats.
