A Green Afternoon at Margens da Lagoa do Caiado

A Green Afternoon at Margens da Lagoa do Caiado

Dec. 4, 2024

During the summer, 24 volunteer teachers joined us for a special afternoon of planting at Lagoa do Caiado. During the activity, we raised awareness among the participants about the challenges caused by invasive species in the Azores and highlighted the vital importance of the three endemic beetles of the LIFE BEETLE project for the health of our ecosystems.

With great dedication, the volunteers planted 160 endemic trees, including Ilex azorica (Azores holly), Vaccinium cylindraceum (Azorean blueberry), and Viburnum treleasei (Azorean Viburnum). These actions are essential to combat invasive species, give more space to native species, and support the habitat of the Ground Beetle - Pseudanchomenus aptinoides.

Together, we are protecting the biodiversity of the Azores!
