LIFE BEETLES Volunteering Action with the participation of national and international volunteers
Nov. 29, 2024
The LIFE BEETLES project, promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, teamed up with the Olhar Poente - Associação Desenvolvimento volunteering project, promoting three volunteering actions with three teams of national and international volunteers from the Critical Techworks company (BMW Group), which consisted of removing invasive alien species and planting endemic species.
The activities took place in the project's intervention areas - Algar do Carvão Eucalyptus Forest (removal of invasive species) and Furnas do Enxofre Eucalyptus Forest (planting endemic species) on Terceira island.
Around 80 kg of the invasive species Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum) were removed, and 146 plants (Morella faya, Viburnum trealasei and Erica azorica) were planted.
These volunteer activities are essential for raising public awareness about the importance of the project and its role in conserving the unique nature of the Azores. This type of action is part of action C5 - Volunteers and Custody Agreements.
