2nd edition of the Portuguese Biosphere Reserves Festival – Fajãs de São Jorge Biosphere Reserve
Nov. 13, 2024
The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action presents the video of the 2nd edition of the Portuguese Biosphere Reserves Festival, which took place between April and May 2024 on the island of São Jorge.
This event brought together some of Portugal's Biosphere Reserves for a moment of sharing, bonding and discovering the history and traditions of these territories.
Biosphere Reserves are territories committed to sustainability, which value the conservation of landscapes and ecosystems for social, economic, cultural and ecological development and act as platforms for research, monitoring, education and awareness-raising.
They represent a unique and relevant model in the global panorama of strategies for protecting, managing and utilising natural resources and biodiversity.
Today, the conservation of natural values is inseparable from human presence and populations' sustainable development and economic prosperity, which underpin the classification and recognition of these reserves.
