Monitoring work at Lagoa Rasa

Monitoring work at Lagoa Rasa

Nov. 6, 2024

The nature conservation work carried out by the LIFE BEETLES project in the Lagoa Rasa intervention area on the island of Flores is regularly monitored. This work consists of the manual removal of an invasive species, Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum), in which the outbreaks of this plant are removed, not only the aerial part of the plant but also the entire root. After removal, tiny seedlings of the invasive species can reappear. For this reason, the areas are monitored not only to check for the reappearance of invasive plants and their removal but also to check that the surrounding vegetation has recovered. This monitoring allows the work to be adapted according to the analysis carried out.
