LIFE IP CLIMAZ project installs network of agrometeorological stations on São Miguel
Oct. 24, 2024
Within the scope of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, the implementation of sub-action C11.1 - Increased coverage of meteorological monitoring and forecasting on agricultural lands, led by the Cooperativa União Agrícola (CUA) is underway. This network of weather stations aims to contribute to integrated protection and precision agriculture, promoting an improvement in the management of agricultural lands through more informed and preventive decisions.
In the first quarter of 2024, the installation of new weather stations was completed, located in Burguete, municipality of Ribeira Grande, in Ponta Garça, municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, in Lomba da Povoação, municipality of Povoação, and in Pilar da Bretenha, Fajã de Cima and Feteiras, belonging to the municipality of Ponta Delgada.
Currently, the weather stations are in the testing phase. With the data generated, it is possible to obtain records of wind speed and direction, air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, precipitation and solar radiation.
An application is also being developed that will make the meteorological data collected by the system available to farmers, allowing better execution and evaluation of its results. This data will also be shared with the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Action, making it available for public use.
