LIFE SNAILS celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Maré de Agosto Festival
Oct. 18, 2024
For the third year running, the LIFE SNAILS project was part of the programme of activities at the 2024 Maré de Agosto Festival on the island of Santa Maria.
As well as showing the project's video on the main stage, there was also an activity that allowed the participating walkers to get to know LIFE SNAILS' intervention areas, namely the agricultural areas and the Ribeira da Praia catchment area. They also took part in monitoring endemic snails and indicators of the impact of nature conservation actions.
Integrating environmental education and awareness-raising activities into events that transcend regional boundaries has been an effective strategy for raising awareness about the importance of preserving the Azores' endemic species and ecosystems while also making the public understand the challenges faced by habitat recovery actions.
