LIFE IP CLIMAZ PROJECT participates in the 27th Meeting of the Graciosa Nature Par Advisory Board

Oct. 17, 2024

The LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, participated in the 27th meeting of the Graciosa Nature Park Advisory Board, held last July, where the progress of the actions developed on that island was presented and discussed, more precisely sub-action C3.1, sub-action C9.1 and sub-action C11.2.

As part of sub-action C3.1, which consists of extending/expanding the geographic coverage of the public network of electric vehicle chargers on the island, a new charging point for electric vehicles was installed and is fully operational in Santa Cruz da Graciosa municipality.

Concerning sub-action C9.1, which concerns incentives for replacing butane gas water heating equipment with electric water heaters, 209 electric water heaters were installed in the homes of people from Graciosa during June and July, resulting from a 1st phase of applications.

Regarding sub-action C11.2, which aims to increase coverage and improve the monitoring of weather stations and water quality, a contract was signed in October 2023, with the INOVA/UAC consortium, to be in force for a period of 2 years (2024-2025) to carry out surveillance monitoring of inland (surface and underground) and transitional waters, which covers 182 sampling points, in order to comply with the Water Framework Directive. During January and February, fieldwork began in order to collect the 1st sample on the islands of Corvo, Flores, Pico, Santa Maria and São Miguel. On Graciosa Island, analyses will be carried out at seven points of internal underground water. This meeting aims to maintain and expand the involvement of regional actors with the work of LIFE IP CLIMAZ from a participatory perspective.
