Training in first aid and rehabilitation of seabirds

Training in first aid and rehabilitation of seabirds

Oct. 10, 2024

As part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project and the SOS Cagarro Campaign, the Regional Directorate for Maritime Policy (DRPM) is organising theoretical and practical training on first aid and seabird recovery. It will occur on the São Miguel, Flores and Faial islands between 14 and 27 October.

This training follows the model of previous initiatives organised by the DRPM, such as training in cetacean necropsies in May 2023 and primary care, rehabilitation and necropsy of sea turtles in October 2023.

The training is aimed mainly at veterinarians and is also open to technicians from the Wild Bird Rehabilitation Centre (CERAS), Park Rangers, and other professionals involved. It will be conducted by the Centre for the Recovery and Research of Wild Animals (RIAS) and divided between theoretical and practical face-to-face sessions.

Although the practical component is reserved for confirmed participants, the theoretical part is open to anyone interested.

The dates and locations are as follows:

São Miguel: 14 and 15 October (in person) – https://forms.office.com/e/tMeYdhSLhd

Flores: 17 and 18 October (in person) – https://forms.office.com/e/a7AzJCb4Js

Faial: 21 and 22 October (in person with online transmission to other islands) – https://forms.office.com/e/qLfL8Qnwvz

In addition, between 24 and 27 October, there will be daily online meetings to discuss clinical cases, open to all those involved in the rehabilitation of Cory's Shearwaters, promoting the exchange of experiences and the deepening of knowledge.

Registration closes one week before the start of the training. We also inform you that the DRPM will not cover accommodation costs.

If you have any questions, please contact with Miriam Garcia ([email protected]) or Susana Simião ([email protected]).

We look forward to your participation!
