15th Azores Waste Week - Registration from 2 September to 6 November 2024
Sept. 17, 2024
The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Action, is promoting the 15th Azores Waste Week between 16 and 24 November 2024 as part of the 16th European Week for Waste Reduction. The aim is to involve actions organised voluntarily by public and private entities on all the islands.
The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is an international initiative that aims to implement awareness-raising actions for a week on the sustainable management of resources and waste, with the aim of changing European citizens' consumption patterns and habits.
The actions included in this initiative are essentially intended to raise awareness and provide information on the correct management of waste at the island level, make people aware of its proper destination, and draw attention to prevention with a view to minimising its daily production.
In this context, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action is renewing its initiative to be the coordinating body for the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) in the Azores. In the 2023 edition, 143 actions were organised in the Region, involving 95 organisations.
Any organisation can promote awareness-raising, information, education and communication actions and activities, dedicated to the theme ‘Food Waste is out of Taste’, to reduce food waste, by registering as a Developer of a Waste Week Action. Applications must be submitted between 2 September and 6 November 2024, using the form available on the application platform at https://ewwr.eu/.
Organisations can apply if they fall into the following categories: Public Administration and organisation; Association/NGO; Business/industry; educational Establishment; Citizen; Other (e.g. hospital, nursing home, cultural institution, etc.).
This European Week will focus on food waste, as it did in the 2021 edition. However, after three years, this theme remains fundamental. Food waste refers to all food (including beverages) and associated inedible parts removed from the human food supply chain in the following sectors: food manufacturing, food retail/grocery, food services, and households.
For any further information, interested parties can contact the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Action on 292 207 300 and email [email protected] or consult the information available in the area of this portal (Portal dos Resíduos) dedicated to Waste Week.
Once again, we count on you to organise activities and encourage other organisations to join.
