Protected Area of Resources Management of Ilhéu das Cabras

 

With 111,80 ha, this area has protected natural habitats, associated with high biodiversity of marine fauna, including underwater and semi-submerged caves. The Gruta dos Ratões, on the north coast of the Ilhéu Oeste (west islet), is distinguished by being one of the few places in the Azores where there are massive reproductive aggregations of eagle ray (Myliobatis aquila), can still see dozens of fish species and other marine vertebrates and invertebrates. Integrates the Special Protection Area (SPA) of the Ilhéu das Cabras within the Natura 2000 Network, and is also an Important Bird Area (IBA).
