Protected Landscape Area of Furnas

The Protected Landscape Area of Furnas, with 3150 ha, lies within a caldera that resulted from the collapse of the structure of one of the most active volcanoes of San Miguel, the Furnas Volcano. The unique geomorphology and hydrology of this caldera led to the classification of this area as a Protected Landscape Area. Stands out in the landscape, the Lagoa das Furnas and secondary volcanic phenomena, such as fumarolic fields and thermal spring waters.
