On March 26, as part of celebrations of International Year of Forests and also to mark the European Year of Volunteering, the Natural Park of São Miguel has made a dynamic activity of planting endemic (about 100 tree heaths) in Pico do Carvão, located on the Protected Landscape Area of Sete CIdades. The activity with the collaboration of technicians from the Natural Park of São Miguel, the nature vigilantes of the Environmental Services of São Miguel and volunteers who promptly joined the initiative, a total of about 20 people. All samples planted were produced in the nurseries of the Forest Service of Ponta Delgada and gently offered. The land was previously prepared by the Natural Park, in the previous year, with an action to combat invasive plants and weed existing, especially Gunnera tinctoria. Were also removed from the site to an appropriate destination about 20 kg of waste, particularly glass bottles left by less-informed citizens. At the end of the planting, everyone involved had also the opportunity to make a trip to the headwaters of Lagoa do Canário.
