This year, for the first time, in Faial Island, was observed and registered an unusually migratory bird, the glossy Íbis (Plegadis falcinellus). The first record of this bird that belongs to the Ciconiiformes Order (herons and storks) was made in Pedro Miguel Ponds. This place, for having a pond, provides the existence of many insects and frogs, with forms the feeding basis of the glossy Íbis, is therefore not surprising that the same remains here.
his bird of gregarious habits (lives in bevy) has a length average of 55-65cm and a wingspan of 88 to 105cm. Nests in reed areas or in trees, alone or occasional with herons and their migratory routes occur between Europe and Africa, where usually spend the winter.
