Honey Production in Faial Natural Park

On January 20 of the current year the Government of Azores, through the Regional Secretariat of the Environment and the Sea, and the Farmers Association from Faial Island, signed the Cooperation Protocol to Honey Production in Faial Natural Park.

In this sense, the Government of Azores gives to the Farmers Association from this Island, some plots of lands strategically located for this purpose, in the protected areas of Faial Natural Park, in order to this association produce honey with considerable quality of environmental production. This initiative also has the goal of selling the product in this Park’s shops and in some artisanal commerce, with the intent to promote it and make it dynamic.

Thus, produced from the nectar of flowers, honey has countless medicinal properties, such as, bactericide, anti-septic, anti-rheumatic, vasodilator, diuretic, digestive, among others being, specially, a great energy food.
